Today we celebrate the remarkable career of Coach Willie Brown as he officially enters retirement after 42 years in education and coaching, including more than 30 years serving students and athletes in Brownsville ISD.
Before arriving in Brownsville, Coach Brown made coaching stops at Huntsville, Mexia, Marlin, Royal, and Bastrop. In Brownsville, he dedicated his time and leadership to Porter, Hanna, and now Rivera, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and athletes.
One of the defining moments of his career came at Marlin, where as head track and field coach he guided his team to a UIL State Championship in 1991. Reflecting on that accomplishment, Coach Brown said being at Marlin “would be up there. It was priceless.”
Throughout his career, Coach Brown served as either a head coach or assistant coach in track, basketball, football, baseball, and softball, contributing to playoff teams in every sport except baseball. His influence extended far beyond wins and losses, shaping young men and women through discipline, commitment, and leadership.
In the classroom, Coach Brown taught Biology, Chemistry, Physics, World Geography, Special Education, and 7th and 8th grade science. He concludes his distinguished educational career as a TEA-designated Master Teacher, the highest designation awarded to a Texas public school teacher.
Coach Brown’s legacy is measured not only in championships and accomplishments, but in the thousands of lives he impacted along the way.
Thank you, Coach Brown, for your dedication, service, and commitment to students, athletes, and the Raider community. Congratulations on an incredible career and best wishes in retirement.
